Colourblind said it best themselves – they’re a band you’re front row for, singing every single word back too.

On their latest EP, Semaphore, they’ve lived up to that hype, fusing punk, emo, indie and grunge elements to create an absolute crowd-pleaser.

It all kicks off with the brooding, but bright, Swing Me Off My Feet—a track made even better with its layered vocal approach and lyrics ripped straight out of the band’s private journal. We’ve got to shout out this candid genuine lyricism some more. In our interview, the band described Semaphore as youthful and nostalgic, reflective of the trials and tribulations of growing up. This comes through in a big way, and makes the EP such a visceral experience.

Semaphore wins points for consistency—the melodies lines the band delivers in spades, everything here works.

As the EP progresses, so too does the explosion of noise. While we’ve called out Swing Me Off My Feet, Soak and Lately as our three standouts, we’ve got to highlight our other favourite parts—notably the heavier tones in the title track and Let it Slip, and the overall sense of melancholy in I Guess That’s It. Ultimately though, Semaphore wins points for consistency—the melodies lines the band delivers in spades, everything here works. And as far as Colourblind themselves go, we reckon the energy they’ve displayed has rivalled that of the energiser bunny. All in all, Colourblind has raised their game on their stunning second EP.

STANDOUT TRACKS: Swing Me Off My Feet, Soak, Lately
