Penning odes to cars, driving around town, beat-up Commodores, Ford Falcons, addiction and more, there’s a scruffy yet affable flair to The Burnouts very focused MO. Offering everything they proclaim to be on the label and then some, this NT-based quartet sprang to life after frontman Morgan Lockhart’s run of solo acoustic shows in 2022. Seeking a band to accelerate a burning creative desire, The Burnouts soon rounded out with bassist and backing vocalist Callan Power, guitarist Brendan Weinheimer and drummer Sam Gulliver.

Mixed and mastered by Flow Audio, with additional mixing and mastering on closing track VZ Commodore, Please Hoon Respectfully also came to life via some in-house recording, with Lockhart himself taking the reins for instruments and vocals, and teaming with Sands Studios to record drums.

With four tracks on offer on Please Hoon Respectfully, including the band’s earlier single Mildly Beat Up Ute, the EP melds fiery guitars, fluctuating rock, punk and pop hues and an ode to Lockhart meeting with The ChatsJosh Hardy. Unsurprisingly, as Lockhart declares his adoration for the Sunny Coast Smoko sensations, there’s lashings of laidback “everyman” rock across Please Hoon Respectfully, with plenty of garage, grunge and alternative elements exploring themselves below the car-centric themes. And as The Chats have mastered, the driving sense of relatability visible on Please Hoon Respectfully showcases that there’s far more than songs about cars on offer from this new Darwin sensation, and undoubtedly there’s gonna be a lot more noise from them in the coming months.

Catch The Burnouts this May for Up North mini music fest in Darwin, with quartet set to appear alongside Melbourne’s Captives and many more. In the meantime, jump in the car and blast this EP – but please do hoon respectfully.

Please Hoon Respectfully is out now via Stone Cold Records.
