Having cut down from a quintet to a trio, the band is preparing to drop their fifth album Violent Noise on the 4th of May and have once again recruited producer Matt Good whose resume includes Asking Alexandria and From First To Last to put his magic touch on the new album just like he did on Dark Matter. Violent Noise features a blend of harsh vocals with clean singing in the choruses, it makes hardcore music accessible with washes of synthesizers, distorted drum tracks and lots of down tune guitar riffs.

Violent Noise is a solid bunch of songs and for those who like hardcore with catchy melodies and distinctive hooks, you will not be disappointed.

It’s a familiar sound palette that many bands in the metal/hardcore circle love to duplicate but what makes Violent Noise stand out is the songwriting and dynamics in the crafting of the compositions. These songs have both a heavy and fragile side and The Word Alive execute all facets of their sound reasonably well. Their melodies do stick in the listener’s head and Tyler “Teller” Smith’s vocals are emotive and compelling.

If you’re put off by the title you shouldn’t be, Violent Noise is a solid bunch of songs and for those who like hardcore with catchy melodies and distinctive hooks, you will not be disappointed. The band’s efforts to widen their scope have paid off and for those seeking some kind of new refreshing hardcore and alternative music, you need look no further than Violent Noise.
