THE USED // Get Weird In New Video For ‘The Nexus’

Even after 25 of them (!!!), The Used are still in the business of dropping cinematic film clips that leave us wondering: why isn’t there a Best Music Video award at the Oscars!?

Their latest slice of filmmaking gold is an abrasive abstract music video for The Nexus, which the Utah post-hardcore powerhouse dropped overnight. Directed by Lisa Mann (who’s responsible for such other iconic clips as The Bird And The Worm and Blood On My Hands), the clip brings Bert McCracken’s ear-splitting vocals to life with a polarising array of dark and delirious imagery.

The Nexus comes in at single #2 from The Canyon, following the jammy Over And Over Again. The first to swap John Feldmann’s production talents for the cataclysmic spark of Ross Robinson, The Canyon hit shelves back in October 2017 as The Used’s first double album and seventh overall. Further racking up the milestones, it also marked their first album not to star founding guitarist Quinn Allman, and the only one to feature Justin Shekoski filling his shows.

ICYMI, The Used took a strange approach to announcing Shekoski’s departure–instead of the stock standard ‘good terms’ statement, the band simply removed his name from their bio and edited him out of promo photos. Harsh, but fair, we suppose.

The Used’s last Australian tour swung by in December of 2016, where they played their 2002 self-titled debut and 2004’s In Love And Death from cover to cover. And though The Canyon was a depressing commercial failure for the band (it dropped at #69 on the ARIA Charts, which isn’t bad until you realise that 2014’s Imaginary Enemy saw them peak at #12, and even the self-titled record cracked the Top 40), an 11-date theatre tour that came extremely close to selling out should be proof enough that Aussie audiences will do anything to see Bertie Beetle and co. in the flesh.
