The American Dream serves as the follow-up release from the critically acclaimed 2016 album Chemical Miracle, which debuted at number eight on the ARIA Charts. The album which is Trophy Eyes’ third release, is due to drop on 3rd August via Hopeless Records, features a collection 12 brand-new tracks, all ‘based on the idea that there is still a sense of utopia left in the world’.
Also serving as a coming-of-age narrative, the album gives listeners a glimpse into lead vocalist, John Floreani’s life. Working alongside the likes of producer, Chris Cracker, who scored Hanz Zimmer’s Interstella, Floreani says of the upcoming album:
“As much as the other Trophy Eyes works have been the hate, violence addiction and heartbreak I fought so desperately to leave behind, this record is about shedding one’s past, transitioning from boy to man making a home and wanting nothing more than to sit and enjoy the silence”, he says.
You Can Count On Me, however, highlights the role of negativity and judgemental treatment, something which many artists of today face due to the impact of social media. Speaking of the effects of the internet can have on musicians’ mental health, Floreani says:
“In many ways, You Can Count On Me is a push back–a voice for those choose not to defend themselves against the growing torch and pitchfork mentality that encircles performers in the era of modern music. Artists used to be a respected breed. With the uprising of social media, it’s as if listeners think they know us. They follow our every move and make judgements on our character based on a photo they may have seen, or a statement someone may have made”, he says.
You Can Count on Me is available through all major streaming services.
The album is set to drop on 3rd August and is available for pre-order now.
