PREMIERE: SOULSLEEP // Experience The Hypnotic New Track ‘Beautiful Disaster’

A beautiful disaster: an oxymoron on paper, but in the hands of Albury/Wodonga-based alt rockers SOULSLEEP it’s a perfect blend of heart-wrenching allure via their brand new tune Beautiful Disaster

Coming in hot on the heels of their previous single Glass Heart, Beautiful Disaster finds SOULSLEEP drilling into luminous soundscapes lined with trap, rock, and soaring vocals. Opening with Billie Eilish-esque simplicity, Beautiful Disaster steadily grows into a textured and tense anthem, pulsing with electronics and driving melodics before exploding with powerful riffs in its stomping chorus, resoundingly haunted by frontman Jake Wiffen declaring: “Who will save your soul?”, while a beautifully chaotic breakdown and outro brings proceedings to a close.

A polished slice of modernity fused with emphatic rock, Beautiful Disaster, produced by Chris Lalic (Windwaker, The Last Martyr), also heavily hits via its devastating yet connective subject matter, with the track directly derived from guitarist Jayden Zago’s personal experiences growing up.

“Beautiful Disaster is a song written about our guitarist, Jayden, and his childhood,” says the band. “It is about his father who was battling addiction which led to him developing drug-induced psychosis. The lyrics tell stories of the memories that Jayden and his brother experienced during their father’s mental episodes. The two young boys were made to dig tiny holes into the walls of their father’s unit with knives at the ages of five & seven because their father believed that there were cameras behind the walls. Jayden’s upbringing has left a permanent wound within him and he struggles to understand how and why someone can do that to themselves and their two small children.”

Beautiful Disaster is a mature yet bombastic glow-up that will both soothe and ignite your soul.

Also armed today with an accompanying music video, shot and directed by Colin Jeffs (RedHook, Future Static, Make Them Suffer), Beautiful Disaster takes on visceral new life in its visual format, including Wiffen filmed performing under icy water in a DIY scrap steel cage.

“The video is a story of two young brothers who felt like they were caged,” says Zago.

The dark and negative clips are the life that they lived and the nicer atmosphere was what they pretended that their life was like. When the clips show the parents in the cage, this represents that they are also ‘trapped’ in a way. They were stuck in a negative cycle but couldn’t see any issues with what was happening, in front of and to their children.”

Once again flexing the group’s dexterity when it comes to heaving riffs, infectious hooks, stadium-ready choruses, and flourishes of EDM and rap, Beautiful Disaster is a mature yet bombastic glow-up that will both soothe and ignite your soul.
