Having toured across Victoria, Canberra and NSW during the last five years, and sharing the stage with the likes of Clowns, Born Lion, Batpiss and Clint Boge of The Butterfly Effect, Past Present have ‘aimed to put Satan to sleep and get Grandma dancing’.

Harlequins serves as Past Present’s lead single off their upcoming second album, which is scheduled for release later this year. The track is dark and melodic which will see Past Present steer towards a new musical direction, into waters not as prominent in recent releases.

Lead singer and guitarist, Bailey Slade is responsible for the bands overall change in direction. That said, other tracks from the upcoming album have been described as darker, moodier and heavier, and in this case, Harlequins ticks all those boxes while taking listeners to the sound of an abandoned carnival.

The lead track, along with the rest of the album was recorded at a friends studio based in Balwyn, Victoria, which made the band feel that they could finally get things right by recording in a familiar setting, therefore allowing them to receive more trustworthy feedback.

Harlequins was recorded and produced by Tyler De Jong, while mastering duties were completed by Marcus Hobbs, who has worked alongside the likes of Courtney Barnett, Camp Cope and Olympia, while the album artwork was produced by talented artist, Benjamin Maskell.

The single is ready to drop on Friday, 18th May through all major streaming services.

Past Present will perform Harlequins live on Friday, 1st June at Matthew Flinders Hotel in Chadstone. Tickets are available through the band’s Facebook page. Get yours now.
