wishful thinking hysteria

It’s hard not to love the sound of Aussie pop punks Wishful Thinking, especially on their brand new EP Love The Sound which officially drops today.

A triumphant new addition to 2022, following the group’s previous triumphant return following a 13 year hiatus, Love The Sound is a jubilant, high-octane collection of five tracks from one of the genre’s true greats – and also undeniably one of Australia’s most beloved classic pop punk fixtures.

Once again weaving happy tunes about less than rosy moments, Love The Sound bustles with everything including percolating warmth (title track Love The Sound), to heart-on-your-sleeve singalongs (Beautiful Nights), sparse-but-sweet hooks (Show Me How), raucous, rollicking mayhem for good measure (You Can) and plenty more.

“The Love The Sound EP is the culmination of around 18 months of work from Wishful Thinking,” shares guitarist and vocalist Carl Jackson. “We are so excited to finally have the complete EP available everywhere. Love The Sound is full of energy and will hopefully have you dancing by the end.”

Emerging in the late 90s and early 2000s, Wishful Thinking have previously toured with the likes of Millencolin, MXPX, Anberlin, Area 7, Antiskeptic, The Getaway Plan, Reliant K and countless others. And, more recently, following the earlier release of the track Sweet Revenge, Wishful Thinking flexed their charming, cathartic might, with the track marking the spark of yet another rock-solid Wishful Thinking outing. And with a heap of shows on the horizon, including a sold out show with Horsell Common in Melbourne this Friday and a Sydney Christmas Show with Anty (The Bennies), Ess-Em, The Porkers and many others lined up in December, get ready to fall in love with Wishful Thinking all over again as the band finish out the year with a bang.

The new Wishful Thinking EP will officially drop tomorrow, Tuesday 1 November, but you can grab an exclusive listen right now on Hysteriamag.com. Plus, the band also exclusively take us track by track through the brand new EP below.

LOVE THE SOUND – EP TRACK BY TRACK

  1. Love The Sound

This is a song that captures the mood of the EP. It’s a song about loving luuve music and all that comes with it. The lights, the sound and spectacle. It’s about the way you can get caught up in the illusion of perfection that a live band portrays.

  1. Sweet Revenge

As they say, the best revenge is living well. This song captures the story of a person striving to be who they are in a world that wants them to be otherwise.

  1. Beautiful Nights

There’s something timeless about a good love song, and Beautiful Nights is a classic love song. This song is based on a true story more or less. When living in Melbourne, my North QLD born and bred partner would constantly talk about how cold it was. Then one time she travelled to QLD for two weeks leaving me behind in Melbourne, and I swear the weather was perfect the whole time! I wrote this song for the exact reason mentioned in the song: “I’m writing this down so when you’re back round you will know.”

  1. Show Me How

Show Me How is a song for summer. It’s about having fun with your friends and enjoying your time off.

  1. You Can

This is the EP’s designated, face-paced punk rock jam. Multiple timings and multiple speeds. You can rock out to this one.

  1. Destiny, Pt. 1

‘Does this life have meaning?’ ‘Are we here for a reason?’ and ‘how do I live life if there is no intrinsic meaning and purpose in this world?’ Destiny is a character that embodies those questions and the song follows her journey along that road.  It is our hope that everyone might see parts of the character of Destiny in their own lives and find comfort in the fact that they are not alone in their struggles.

Love The Sound is out Tuesday 1 November.
