Directed by Joe Berlinger, the film is a biopic about the infamous serial killer Ted Bundy, with Zac Efron taking the lead role. The film tells the story of Bundy from the perspective of his girlfriend Elizabeth Kloepfer (Lily Collins), who struggled to accept the reality of Bundy’s nature.
Hetfield will portray Officer Bob Hayward, the first officer to arrest Bundy in 1975 for aggravated kidnapping and attempted criminal assault, long before he was suspected of committing murders.
Berlinger and Hetfield first worked together on the Metallica documentary Some Kind Of Monster, with Berlinger co-directing. Berlinger had this to say about working with Hetfield again:
“Having spent hundreds of hours behind the scenes with James and the rest of Metallica, I have experienced his charisma and powerful presence close up. It seemed only natural that he would bring that same power and magnetism to a dramatic role, so when he agreed to my pitch that he be in the movie, I was thrilled.”
Hetfield’s filmography has been limited to cameos, mostly with his bandmates.
The film is set to also star John Malkovich, Jim Parsons, and Haley Joel Osment. It’s currently in production with no scheduled release date.
