THE MESSTHETICS // Fugazi Members Reunite For New Band & Album

Washington D.C. punk legends Fugazi have been terribly missed since going on hiatus in 2003. The band had one of the greatest rhythm sections in drummer Brendan Canty and bassist Joe Lally. Now the pair has teamed up for the first time since for their new band The Messthetics, readying the release of their debut album.

Joined by guitarist and fellow D.C. native Anthony Pirog, the trio are making classic punk-influenced instrumentals, as heard on the album’s lead single Serpent Tongue.

The riff-filled riot is the first taste of their self-titled debut album, also produced by Canty. The album was recorded live in Canty’s practice space with minimal overdubs, capturing the rawness of the power trio.

This will be the first time Canty and Lally have recorded together since Fugazi’s 2001 swansong The Argument. Since then, Canty has scored soundtracks and played with Garland Of Hours and Deathfix, while Lally has released three solo albums and was a member of supergroup Ataxia alongside John Frusciante and Josh Klinghoffer of Red Hot Chilli Peppers.

The Messthetics is due for release 23 March on Dischord Records, the record label co-founded by Fugazi guitarist and singer Ian MacKaye.
