MARMOZETS // The Power Of Knowledge

Three years since their last run of balls-to-the-wall club shows, the UK’s biggest and brightest crew of math-punk noisemakers, Marmozets, are finally back in Australia.

The quintet are still riding high on the hype of their second album, Knowing What You Know Now, which dropped back in January to a cyclone of critical acclaim. For example, in a well-deserved 8/10 review, Hysteria called it “a massive improvement on Marmozets’ excellent debut, showing massive growth in their wild and wonderful world.”

To put it bluntly, Marmozets needed the album to succeed. It’d been four years since their breakthrough Weird And Wonderful album, and the past two years in particular had seen the group especially quiet. Y’see, the follow-to their debut LP was initially slated for an early 2016 release. The band had waxed lyrical about their grand ambitions, and studio time was all but locked and loaded. That was, of course, until frontwoman Becca MacIntyre was spear-tackled after a set at last year’s Reading & Leeds festival, leading to an HMS (Hypermobility Syndrome) diagnosis, multiple surgeries and almost a year out of action.

And so even though it was only their second full-length, Knowing came as somewhat of a comeback release for the Bingley, West Yorkshire moshlords. We couldn’t be more stoked on how it’s played out for them, either: Marmozets are as weird and wonderful as they’ve ever been, and their current live show is a genuine testament to the power of passion.

Before they took the stage at Sydney’s Lansdowne Hotel for the first of three shows on their Australian mini-tour (which includes their second jaunt at Splendour In The Grass this weekend), we caught up with Becca and Jack Bottomley (guitar) to riff on Australia, festivals and Knowing What You Know Now.

Marmozets are currently on tour across Australia. Catch them at the following dates:

Thursday July 19th – Evelyn Hotel, Melbourne
Friday July 20th – Splendour In The Grass, Byron Bay SOLD OUT
