And they’ve done it again on their debut EP, Compromise in Colour, gluing us to our seat right up the front of their hype train.

Compromise in Colour embraces emo, alt-rock, hits of electronica and a nostalgic, early 2000s sound. It’s a mix that works well, and in large part, this is thanks to the stellar musicianship of Jack Gray (bass) and Josh McIntosh (guitar). On the whole, the EP focuses on riff-heavy, hypnotic soundscapes. Playing to the strengths of all members though, there’s also the incredibly strong, soaring, grunge-soaked vocals of Jordyn Briggs. Considering the band’s formation during the lockdown era, the EP features introspective, complex lyrics – touching on heartbreak, the need for meaningful human interaction and one’s struggles with self-identity and isolation.

With their commanding presence, confident delivery and incredible musicianship, we’re excited to see how they evolve next.

As powerful as the band’s melodies and lyrics are, we’ve also got to shout out the track’s slick production, courtesy of Christopher Vernon. Vernon knows exactly what it takes to make a killer track, having worked with Bloom while also fronting Better Half. And while both acts are some of the most exciting in the Oz scene right now, Compromise in Colour feels as massive as anything either has put out. It is only early days, but Compromise in Colour has set Colourburn up for a very bright future. With their commanding presence, confident delivery and incredible musicianship, we’re excited to see how they evolve next.
