Riffs like an 18 wheeler

Well well well Cancer Bats, where has this energy been in recent times? Gatekeeper tells us immediately that the slower riffs of previous records won’t be finding a place to rest here.

“Never gonna quit, never gonna quit” they state when launching into Bed of Nails. No wonder: The Spark That Moves is an absolute kick in the ass that the band needs to move further into the spotlight.

That same track has the absolute golden line “Before I die I’ll live forever” too … Keith Buckley is that you? Anyone who thrashed Every Time I Die’s New Junk Aesthetic will find themselves in good company here. Fear Will Kill Us All may well take the ETID crown here with its relentless gang vocal refrain. The break wouldn’t feel out of place in a strip club either.

Cancer Bats hold onto the party spirit right until the bitter (freezing) end.

This is some down and dirty fun that rollicks around like a bucking bronco. Space and Time has all we need to host a whiskey chugging contest; bottles or nothing fam. Actually that smooth brown liquid seems to seep into every corner of The Spark That Moves. Never fear, there are still riffs like Head Wound’s to blast in the 18 wheeler on a desolate highway. Cancer Bats hold onto the party spirit right until the bitter (freezing) end of Winterpeg. The last line? “We. Live. On.” Very appropriate.

STICK THIS NEXT TO: Every Time I Die, The Bronx, Frank Carter and the Rattlesnakes
STANDOUT TRACKS: Bed of Nails, Space and Time, Gatekeeper
