Dear Joey and Brooke, What a wild ride! I just wanted to write to express …
Rising from the ashes of grief, Architects launch their new single Doomsday, announce they are working on a new album, and introduce their newest permanent member, Sylosis guitarist Josh Middleton.
With the passing of guitarist, brother, and friend, Tom Searle last year, Architects future as a band had been shrouded in mystery. That is, until now. The UK metalcore giants have risen above and beyond expectations in completing their new single, Doomsday, a song that the late Tom Searle had begun but never had the chance to finish. This track is that beacon of light we have all been waiting for. In a statement earlier this week drummer Dan Searle said that “Doomsday is not from an album we’ve recorded. It is just one song. It’s just the start. Our way of showing everyone that there is still a future.”
After listening to Doomsday, it is clear the band are taking on a new direction lyrically. After speaking to Rock Sound earlier this week, vocalist Sam Carter confirms that “The things we’ve been through as a group of people, like lyrically it’s going to heading in that direction … Writing music about what we’ve been through is, can be very cathartic and very helpful. We’re obviously never going to turn away from our beliefs, who knows there may be few songs on the record about it, ’cause we are in a very sorry state of affairs right now, I still find it very shocking that Donald Trump is actually a president, but there is a lot of things we need to get off our chests and our heads and as a band explain what we’ve been through, and also as a family, and a group of best friends.”
With the addition of their newest permanent member, Sylosis guitarist Josh Middleton who was filling in on touring duties following Tom’s passing, Architects are aiming to raise their standards higher than ever before. Searle told Rock Sound, “The attitude should be, given we’ve lost Tom, to try and make something half decent, but we kind of want to keep getting better. The odds are stacked against us, it almost sounds arrogant, or deluded for me to suggest that we want to keep getting better, but that is ultimately our target.”
However, having enough pressure on themselves as it is, Architects are not making any promises as to when this new album will come out. If Doomsday is anything to go by, we feel the new Architects album is going to incredible to say the least. It’s reason why they won BBC Radio 1 Rock Show’s coveted Rockest Record of the week last week.
We all know they have high standards, and now a sense of responsibility to uphold Tom’s legacy, that coupled with their strong desire to continually push themselves and excel beyond their current sound and technical skill, we’ve decided to call it early, Album of the year! Well for whenever it comes out, that is!
