THE GOOCH PALMS // Sign To Dune Rats’ Record Label & Drop Single

Newcastle icons The Gooch Palms have announced their glorious return after some much-needed downtime.

The duo have signed to Dune Rats’ label Ratbag Records, and have dropped a two-minute-fourty-second feminist punk anthem in the form of Busy Bleeding.

An upbeat ode to “that time of the month”, Busy Bleeding features a guest vocal from TOTTY’s Kelly Jansch, and shines a light on periods; a topic that some people still seem to find taboo.

Drummer and singer Kat Friend said that “we’re all taught early on that periods are embarrassing and gross and boys are raised not knowing anything about it until they’re forced to gab some tampons for their female companion or friend from the store and it’s like the whole world is ending.”

“For half our natural lives women are dealing with this and why it’s such a big taboo is beyond us. Let’s forget the polite secrecy and scream and shout about periods y’all!”

To help release the new single; the band have teamed up with Ratbag Records; run by Dune Rats and home to Skeggs, MOLLY, and TOTTY. “We are so stoked to be working with the boys on this single and much more further down the track” said Friend.

It’s been a big summer for The Gooch Palms. The band have returned to their hometown of Newcastle, after spending three years relocated in Los Angeles. The duo have been settling back into the steel city, and working on songwriting and recording.

Of course, the band couldn’t help but make a small appearance in Newy last year—performing at halftime during the 20th anniversary replay of the Newcastle Knights winning the 1997 ARL Grand Final. Iconic.

To celebrate the release of their new single, the band are about to hit the road with Melbourne party boys The Bennies. They’re hitting a bunch of cities around the country; including Beer & BBQ Festivals! in Sydney & Adelaide, and a show at the Gallery Of Modern Art in Brisbane. Talk about a culture clash.
