Rollercoaster experience

There’s been a lot (and I mean a lot) of great music blowing in from Perth this year–Australian heavy metal and rock ‘n’ roll has never known such dedication and creative flair–but none are more dedicated and creative than Bayview Suspect in their second EP, Survival Or Ruin.

MORE: HALLOWEEN HYSTERIA 2018: A Celebration Of All Things Loud // DEAD OF WINTER 2018: A Real Live Dead One // KICK OUT THE JAMS: POLARIS // Hailing Jams With Jamie Hails REVIEWS: IMMORTAL: Northern Chaos Gods // PAGAN: Black Wash

This EP has everything you could want from truly imaginative melodic groove metal–vicious vocals, machine gun drum lines, killer guitar and bass runs that tickle the ears like ants on speed. With every track it’s as if Bayview Suspect are at war their own creative skill, battling to better themselves. Just like in Transformers when the Autobots come together to become a colossal combiner bot, Bayview Suspect gather to them machines of momentum, volume, style and power with every changing track to become a force to be reckoned with.

… vicious vocals, machine gun drum lines, killer guitar and bass runs that tickle the ears like ants on speed.

As the EP’s standout track, Watch Those Catch Light is equal parts nasty and nice–nasty in the sense that you can almost feel the spit hit your face as vocalist John Callaghan spews some in-depth sentiment over some hardcore riffage, and nice in the sense that this track is exemplary of the nonconforming nature of Bayview Suspect’s brand of metal. Throughout Survival Or Ruin we’re getting snippets of hip-hop, nu-metal, hardcore, metalcore, heck, every “core”, and it makes for a rollercoaster experience.

Take a deep breath before you hit play, you’re going to need to hold onto your seat as you submerge into Bayview Suspect.
