THE AMITY AFFLICTION // Return With Massive New Jam + Album

To hell with Heartbreak—oceancore overlords The Amity Affliction are back, and they’re about to knock us out cold with their biggest and boldest album yet.

In case you’ve missed the social media shitstorm that’s blown up over the past few days, that album is called Misery. Judging from the title—and the fact that, y’know, this is The Amity Affliction we’re talking about—we’re expecting this to be yet another LP of soul-crushing emo bangers, the likes of which frontman Joel Birch and co. have built a goddamn empire on.

Misery is set to hit shelves on Friday, August 24th via Roadrunner. It comes as Amity’s sixth album in total, following 2016’s chart-destroying This Could Be Heartbreak. And much like they have with every album thus far, the band are offering some inhumanly sweet pre-order bundles with the record. Seriously, guys, just take our entire fucking wallets already.

The new album will also be Amity’s first since the departure of drummer Ryan Burt, who exited the band in February this year citing mental health concerns.

Alongside the news of Misery comes a massive new single, Ivy (Doomsday). The pop-leaning cut was premiered this arvo on triple j, and is met with a music video that, in true Amity fashion, defies the odds of what a metalcore clip should be capable of.

Written by Birch and directed by scene mainstay Ryan Mackfall, the Ivy video is set to be the first chapter in a three-part short not unlike the triple-length epic they hit us with in the Weather / Heartbreak / Fucked Up saga not long ago. Of course, we’ll be sure to update you all when the Misery storyline hits its next beat.

The Amity Affliction last toured Australia in July 2017 with an arena show Hysteria called “a ridiculously huge, pyro-flavoured send-off” for This Could Be Heartbreak. Will they be able to top it with the inevitable Misery run? Time will only tell…

Misery is out Friday, August 24th via Roadrunner.

Pre-orders are available now from 24hundred, or you can jam it on digital formats from iTunesGoogle Play or Spotify.
