SILVERSTEIN // From Emerald Shades to Jade

Sliverstein Australian Tour

The grass is always greener on the other side for Silverstein’s Shane Told.

He and his post-hardcore Canadian band mates can’t help but let their minds wander; what they’re missing out on at home or what’s in store for their next tour.

The balance between “work” and personal life has been emotionally and mentally taxing for Told, but that’s not to discredit his love for performing and touring the world.

“I’ll tell you man, this is the real deal here, and this is my opinion and I’m sure if you really looked into the soul of most musicians, like 95 out of 100, most of us, when we are on tour wish we were home, and when we are home wish we were on tour.”

However, Told says it could be worse.

“There are a lot of people that live, quote/unquote a normal life, and they don’t get to experience the things that I do. I don’t take it for granted, and that’s the way it is, but that’s the way I would say it is with almost all musicians. There are a few that hate touring and are miserable the whole time and there are a few who hate being home and never want to go home …”

I’ll tell you man, this is the real deal here, and this is my opinion and I’m sure if you really looked into the soul of most musicians, like 95 out of 100, most of us, when we are on tour wish we were home, and when we are home wish we were on tour.

[SHANE]

After 13 years of traversing the world Told has become accustomed to the irregular times spent at home. At the end of the day, this isn’t your average career. That’s some 1,760 shows played and over one million albums sold by Silverstein.

“Then what happens when you go home from tour, you are excited to go home and experience that but then after a while you get that itch you know? You want to be back on the road, you want to be back exploring the world and performing your art and doing all those things that are amazing. There’s really that back and forth that exists and that’s basically what has been going on in my life for the last 13 years now that we’ve been touring. For me I’ve started to understand this is the reality of my life and it’s not going to be perfect, I’m going to miss home when I’m on tour, and I’m going to miss tour when I’m home.”

Silverstein will begin their Australian tour with Pierce The Veil, Storm The Sky and Beartooth next week, a place they’d rather be.

“There’s no bullshit, I’m sure a lot of people say it, but for me Australia is the best place in world to tour for sure. I love coming down there, people have so much passion. You have such a beautiful country, so much to see and it’s very unique, and I just love how the people are liberal, people are chill.”
