Dear Joey and Brooke, What a wild ride! I just wanted to write to express …
After fifteen years of consistent subterranean success at the helm of sludge covered alternative hard and thumping rock and roll, and the last three years deep beneath the surface writing music, Seether have emerged from the underworld to gift the laymen plebs of polished society their seventh studio album, Poison The Parish.
Recorded at Blackbird Studio in Nashville, Tennessee – home of that twang-thud, ole ‘murican rock and roll that Seether distort almost unrecognisably – Poison The Parish marks the first record which singer and songwriter, Shaun Morgan, has produced in it’s entirety from beginning to end; it’s also the first release via Canine Riot Records, Morgan’s new label imprint.
Dropping 12 May, Poison The Parish is “among the heaviest and emotionally pure efforts of the band’s illustrious career” and if the first single and video, Let You Down, are a sign of what to expect on the album, then boy you better start lining your pants with pocket change ‘cause you’re taking a trip to the most sinister fair you ever imagined; you bet your bottom dollar Seether have some creepy carny games in store.
It’s a bit like Silverchair on ketamine, but not a lot, just enough to balance out the biker speed – none of meandering psychedelic K-Hole inspired shit here, man. It’s dark, dense, and ferocious, sporting a set of balls pulsating with purpose and passion.
Poison The Parish is Seether still proving their commitment to a genre after fifteen years and (now) seven records; it’s a “gripping and self-assured affirmation of a quintessential hard rock band in peak form.” Or so we’re told; but we don’t know really know that yet. We still have to wait until May 12th like the rest of the laymen plebs ‘til we get the complete serving of Poison The Parish, not just a little taste. But until then, we can visit the carnival one more time, and keep on spinning Let You Down… Hey Ed, can you pass the ketamine? (Sure! – Ed.)
