RESCUER// Anxiety Answering

Rescuer: Anxiety Answering
(No Sleep Records)

You know those Morbid Angel shirts? The one’s that say “extreme music for extreme people” in big letters across the back? Yeah, well if Rescuer wanted to make a shirt like that, it would have to read “hard music for soft people”. On album number two, this Florida four piece have obviously wanted to focus on words like “lush” and “emotionality” while keeping it in the punk-o-sphere. To their credit, the album they’ve made is both lush and emotional, and it’s also, at the very least, punk-adjacent … so there’s that. For all its calculated lushness and emotionality, it feels like it’s missing any sense of soul. It comes across sounding more like an attempt to sound like other bands whose records feel legitimately emotional and hit you with a real sense of lushness, rather than an effort that sees the band present something that you immediately feel to be honest and unique.

For fans of: La Dispute, Deftones, not using the term ‘emo’.
