The follow up to their debut EP Rose-Tinted Gold takes on a much more sombre tone, showing a solid progression for the post punk crew.
Speaking of the track, Sleepwell‘s vocalist Casey Ford explained: “Acreman is the first part of two songs, written through last year and the year before, intended to help understand and portray personal grief, both songs reflect on the struggle to accept the death of a loved one and how pivotal that experience can prove to be in a young person’s life”.
Acreman sees the band wear their hearts on their sleeves as they process their experiences with loss. Throwing some major La Dispute vibes into the ring, the track is a desperate call out to the memory of a lost friend, and boy is it emotionally heavy. Filled with anguished vocals, softer influences and extremely personal, cathartic lyrics; the track hits ballad territory—but still sticks true to the four pieces emo roots.
Sleepwell’s Guitarist Rhys Hilton also went on to say: “The track combines sad aggression and a modest drive that is true to the band, both in sound and structure showing we have reached a higher level both as songwriters and musicians.”
The release marks the beginning of an emotive, new project for the band—one that they hope will help move through the grief cycle following their shared personal tragedy. In the lead up to this, Sleepwell will tear up the stage at the Triffid in Brisbane, playing alongside Moose Blood, Hundredth and Satellites on Saturday, 8th September.
Acreman was recorded, mixed and mastered by ex-Amity guitarist, Troy Brady. The accompanying video was filmed by Brisbane photographer, Elliot Sauvage. It is now available for streaming and purchase through Soundcloud, Spotify and Bandcamp.
