Out of the 16 songs on OFF!’s new full length album, only one goes for longer than two minutes. So no one can accuse hardcore god Keith Morris of selling out or tinkering with an awesome formula, but maybe he’s cashing in on his legacy a bit. C’mon, can Keith Morris say “wasted” without everybody thinking, ‘I had a surfboard/I had a skateboard’. You’ve heard everything OFF! have to offer on this new record. That doesn’t make it a bad record, no way, but it also doesn’t mean it’s a brilliant album. The Raymond Pettibon-penned artwork might trick you into thinking that Wasted Years is a truly badass and seminal punk release, but the truth is it’s only a very good punk rock record. Because Wasted Years does not stand above and beyond seminal Circle Jerks records, but it does remind you of them a whole lot. And that ain’t half bad.
