MARILYN MANSON // Drops Cover From Cult Classic ‘The Lost Boys’

It seems as though beloved gothfather Marilyn Manson can do no wrong!

The self-proclaimed god of fuck follows up his game-changing 2017 album Consequence Of Sound today with the release of Cry Little Sister, a cover of the theme song from the 1987 cult classic film The Lost Boys.

Manson’s version of the classic number begins with a rumbling techno bass, an escalating beat pulses a way for his trademark melodic, gritty groan to take over. To be honest, the ease with which Manson knocks out top of the range notes is arguably some of his best performances in recent years. Manson invokes 80s flavours, throwbacks in tone to his Portrait Of An American Family days, and don’t worry, the seemingly angelic chorus of voices crooning the legendary line Thou Shall Not Fall has not been omitted–it remains just as ominous, just as hypnotic and just as beautiful as the original.

The Lost Boys, an American horror flick about two brothers, who on their move to California end up going up against a group of California vampires in order to save their new friends from the undead miscreants, has become something of a cultural icon in the 30 years since its release. The Lost Boys helped reshape cinematic perceptions of vampires, and its characters rocked some pretty cool leather jackets, IMO. The film’s theme was originally written and performed by Gerard McMahon, and it’s a real treat for such a longstanding anthem to be given a darker makeover.

Manson’s cover of Cry Little Sister joins his already impressive collection of reimagined songs like, Sweet Dreams (Are Made Of This), Tainted Love, Sick City and Personal Jesus, all given that wonderful dark rock veil as only Manson can deliver.
