Dear Joey and Brooke, What a wild ride! I just wanted to write to express …
If you were addicted to Making a Murderer on Netflix, you’ll know Steven Avery’s defence attorneys Dean Strang and Jerry Butin – and they’re coming to Australia for a speaking tour this November.
Strang and Buting were the central figures in stating wrongly accused and imprisoned murder suspect Steven Avery’s case on the most talked about streaming documentary last year. They’ll be sharing their experiences in November, starting at Perth’s Concert Hall and going on to Sydney, Adelaide, Brisbane and Melbourne.
The pair will be in conversation with a moderated discussion about the justice system and its many failings. They’ll also open up the floor to an audience Q&A to gain deeper insight into the Avery case and justice as a whole.
Dean A. Strang is a lawyer in Madison, Wisconsin. He is best known for his work as one of Steven Avery’s trial lawyers, as well as for his first book, “WORSE THAN THE DEVIL: ANARCHISTS, CLARENCE DARROW, AND JUSTICE IN A TIME OF TERROR.” He is an adjunct professor at Marquette University Law School, the University of Wisconsin Law School, and University of Wisconsin’s Division of Continuing Studies.
Jerome F. Buting is a shareholder in the Brookfield, Wisconsin law firm of Buting, Williams & Stilling, S.C. He received his undergraduate degree in Forensic Studies from Indiana University and his law degree from the University of North Carolina – Chapel Hill. He is a past director of the National Association of Criminal Defence Lawyers, a past president of the Wisconsin Association of Criminal Defence Lawyers, and chair of the Wisconsin State Bar Criminal Law Section from 2005 to 2007. His present private practice is entirely criminal defence, both trials and appeals.
