Dear Joey and Brooke, What a wild ride! I just wanted to write to express …
Real talk: I woke up this morning and felt absolutely bloody ruined. Winter has king hit me like a roid-raging teen in a Kings Cross nightclub, and as I swallowed what I’m pretty sure was water but felt like small nails, it became clear as day: the flu is my single worst enemy.
It was tempting to slam a whole damn pack of Codrals, but as it turns out, the best medicine doesn’t come in convenient little bullet packs of 48—it drops out of nowhere on YouTube and turns your hellish Thursday into a Thursyay. One stream of the new Hellions track and goddammit, I feel like I could take on the fucking world.
Following the anthemic X (Mwah) as our second taste of Hellions’ forthcoming fourth album, Furrow is a extremely chill little jam that shines with mellow rapped verses and a bright, chimey guitar line that starves for the replay button. And, of course, it wouldn’t be a Hellions song without some sweet, soul-crushing screams, and frontman Dre Faivre certainly does not disappoint on the chorus.
On the track, drummer Anthony Caruso says, “Furrow speaks of real, personal experiences in dealing with the mental processes of learning to accept, understand, forgive and above all, love someone in a relationship, where clashing values and morals are constantly challenging not only commitment to another person, but our own happiness.
“The outside world has profound influence on how we perceive ourselves; our self-worth. How this effects the state of being in love with one another can be so powerful, it can prove to be some of our greatest challenges throughout life.
“The fallen tulip in the artwork is an acknowledgement to the struggle and loneliness we can feel in fighting our own battles of self-perception, while being able to realise someone else’s.”
Further details on Hellions’ new album are thin at the moment—it was reported done when they hit UNIFY at the start of the year, but the band recently headed back into the studio to further hash it out. The LP is expected to drop later in 2018, and if the two cuts we’ve heard so far give us any indication, fans can expect some very ~interesting~ vibes abound.
Furrow is available to stream or buy now on all good digital platforms. Click here to jam it!
