Meatier Odd World

Dregg burst through in the middle of last year with single Sorry Daddy after their debut No Comment EP in 2015. Their second EP, vaguely self titled, is a step forward but held back by some odd choices. Two indulgent interlude tracks do assist with the ‘bizarre’ vibe of the record but they’re not integral enough to warrant a second listen.

The Dregg EP feels like a statement rather than a fully fledged EP with these breaking the flow up. Ill Mannered is bearable but Zovic is a complete waste of time. Fans of the Odd World that Ocean Grove reside in will be stoked with the song’s meatier cuts; it’s more Black Label than Rhapsody Tapes though mind you.  Narcotic and the title track have riffs that push the tempo to let the slower moments take full effect. The former’s “Mother Nature’s a whore/she will fuck you” is a line that’s left its mark.

Ditto for Don’t Go Into The Mangroves with its lyrics suitably weird enough to be memorable. Dregg have promise if they don’t try too hard on the ‘weird’ factor and stick to letting the music and lyrics show off their own unique selves.

STANDOUT TRACKS: Ridiculous, Narcotic, Don’t Go Into The Mangroves
STICK THIS NEXT TO: The Bride, Hellions, Ocean Grove
