Dear Joey and Brooke, What a wild ride! I just wanted to write to express …
Decapitated are back with their seventh album, Anticult. It’s another leap forward for the Polish death metal band as they continue to explore new territory and push themselves to new limits with their song writing.
A band like Decapitated doesn’t come around very often. They’ve overcome a tragic history but they have forged ahead, continuing to hone their craft and prove that, after everything, they are still at the top of the death metal game. Releases like Blood Mantra and Carnival Is Forever show the new directions that they were willing to embrace as they pushed on, and with Anticult, the Poles have further embraced this new direction and the new influences in their writing by releasing a truly solid record.
Guitarist Wacław “Vogg” Kiełtyka has been quoted many times recently that Decapitated will never truly go back to writing a ‘pure’ death metal album and this is quite obvious with Anticult as it blends more thrash, melody and groove into the tracks than they ever have before.
You are treated to forty odd minutes of absolutely ferocious metal.
It is hard to pinpoint the best tracks on the album, as it is certainly one with no filler, the songs Anger Line, Kill This Cult and the previously released Earth Scar are a favourite for this reviewer. They are crushing, full of groove and melody and show off the technical prowess of Vogg, complimented by the brutal blast beats of Michał Łysejko. When you combine this with Rafal “Rasta” Piotrowski’s vocals, which are on point on this record, you are treated to forty odd minutes of absolutely ferocious metal.
For Decapitated, this album is the next logical step up from Blood Mantra and the band seem so at ease on this record. They have really found their niche in the death metal arena and while there are always going to be elements of their original sound, they aren’t looking back.
