Twisted Gnarly Riffs

Hear ye, hear ye! 36 Crazyfists aren’t “back”. 36 Crazyfists never left! With their seventh studio album Lanterns, the Alaskan quartet have a tumultuous personal record on their hands, the music serving as the light at the end of a very chaotic tunnel.

Opener Death Eater pummels the eardrums as it coerces through some gnarly riffs, eyes, ears and soul all on the wild craftsmanship of frontman Brock Lindow. His vocals are impressive as hell, he shows a maturity of sound and versatility in technique not seen before on a 36 Crazyfists release.

The guitars while bright and warm are still gnarly as hell, and each song, though touching on some deeply personal stuff, is lyrically creative and harks back to the impressive work that was 2002’s Bitterness The Star, the band’s most successful studio album to date.

Time, experience, trials and tribulations, with Lanterns 36 Crazyfists haven’t sacrificed any of their colossal sound to these more pensive times in their career—they’ve manipulated ideas of self-reflection, hitting rock bottom and the determination to climb back up again to cultivate a twisted and surreal release of rich melodies that is a shoe in for success.
