FEATURE: POLISH CLUB // All Brass, No Tacks

Polish Club love a good bit of good ol’ fashioned, gimmicky fun. Hell, this is the band that dropped a cover of Truly Madly Deeply by Savage Garden on a heart-shaped vinyl for Valentines Day, after all.

MORE: THE BENNIES: Chill Bill – Vol Fun // PANIC! AT THE DISCO: Wild & Wicked // THE AMITY AFFLICTION: Return With Massive New Jam & Album // ZEAL & ARDOR: In The Fiery Depths Of Hell // #REALTALK: Actually, Punk Is Doing Just Fine

Their lastest gag is much, much more ambitious though. Not only for the fact it’s a two-part mission, or that both of those parts involve the Sydney rock’n’roll duo completely retooling their structure—no, Polish Club’s two-date With Horns tour is their biggest leap forward yet because out of every hilarious little schtick they’ve pulled, this one is the first to actually make a lot of sense … Or, well, any at all for that matter.

Alongside voice/guitar wrangler David Novak and drum slut John-Henry Pajak, the feature presentation will see a five-piece brass ensemble unite for an hour of renovated jams from Polish Club’s sleeper hit debut—the rollicking Alright Already—both of their EPs and, as is to be expected from the band with or without a horn section, some shit-hot covers. And then there’s the little matter of Polka Club*, the band’s self-explanatory polka makeover featuring John-Henry’s dad on the acordion for a 30-minute cover set of modern era pop gems.

With both shows right around the corner, we met up with the band to vibe on all things brass, polka, new music, The Avengers, money … It was a weird chat, honestly. We’ve even gone ahead and kept it in its OG audio form, because text just couldn’t do a chat this massive any justice. So get your best headphones ready, crank ’em all the way up and try not to jam out to the royalty-free Kisschasy covers in the background.

*Note: Since this interview was recorded, Polish Club were forced to remove their Polka Club project from the tour lineup due to JH’s father being diagnosed with cancer. Our thoughts and best wishes are with Pajak and his family.

Polish Club’s seven-piece headline shows kick off in July with All Our Exes Live In Texas and Sweater Curse.

Saturday July 7th – Corner Hotel, Melbourne
Saturday July 14th – Factory Theatre, Sydney
