AT THE DRIVE-IN // Exposes Alleged Assault of Wife In ‘Incurably Innocent’

At The Drive-In frontman Cedric Bixler-Zavala took to Twitter today confirming single Incurably Innocent references the alleged rape of his wife Chrissie by actor Danny Masterson, star of That 70’s Show and a noted Scientologist.

The ATDI frontman says that the Church of Scientology have “been outsourcing private investigators and various thugs to follow and try and intimidate my family under the policy known as fair game,” alleged to have hacked their computers and security systems, and also fears for his wife Chrissie’s safety, after privately pressing charges against Masterson last year. Masterson made the charges public in March this year. Despite “overwhelming evidence,” the charges have not yet been approved for filing.

According to an anonymous source who spoke to the Huffington Post, “evidence includes audiotapes, emails sent to and from Scientology officers at the time the alleged rapes happened, forensic computer evidence and a threatening handwritten letter Masterson sent to one of the alleged victims, according to two people with knowledge of the evidence in the district attorney’s possession.”

As for the “coded” message in Incurably Innocent, the reference is made in this lyrical passage:

“He keeps a-hiding your photograph
Of the moment that you needed to emasculate his
Photograph but you locked up in the trance of a memory
Photograph of the moment that you needed to emasculate his
Photograph but you locked up in the trance of a memory
Marching to the coffins on Franklin Avenue”

Franklin Avenue is the location of the Scientology Celebrity Centre in Los Angeles, California.

Masterson, through high-profile attorney Tom Mesereau, denied all charges. Tom Mesereau gained notoriety in 2005 for helping acquit singer Michael Jackson of 14 child molestation charges.

Chrissie also issued a statement lambasting Netflix for allowing Masterson to star in Ashton Kutcher sitcom The Ranch. This is despite pulling House of Cards from the service due to the sexual misconduct allegations levelled against the show’s star, Kevin Spacey.

“Danny Masterson is a celebrity. He flourishes and prospers in life. You protect that and reward that.’ -direct quote from the Church of Scientology. I don’t matter. The other women don’t matter. Our pain means nothing, and we should be good little girls and shut our mouths. No! I’m going to be an amazing woman who will NOT shut my mouth when I find out my rapist raped countless other women. I will NOT shut my mouth when Netflix tries to make us feel like we don’t matter. We DO matter. We ARE important. We will see justice for what was done to us, and is continuing to be done to us…and for all those who knew/know and are either actively helping this serial rapist or are choosing to stay silent…YOU don’t matter.” Read the entire statement here.

Chrissie left the church in November 2016. The Church of Scientology has a noted history of abuse against former members, their children, and those who speak out against their practices. Leah Remini, star of sitcom The King of Queens, left the Church in 2013 and documented her own and other’s abuse over a 30-year period in her documentary series Leah Remini: Scientology and the Aftermath.

Masterson dated Chrissie Carnell for six years, during the time the alleged rapes took place. Zavala and Carnell married in 2009. They live in Los Angeles with their twin boys, Ulysses and Xanthus, born in 2013.
