DEEZ NUTS // Jihadbangers For The Wrong Reasons

Remember that time the Australian government linked alternative music to violent extremism? We sure do.

Minister Assisting the Prime Minister on Terrorism Michael Keenan launched a “Radicalisation Awareness Information Kit” to Australian schools in September last year.

We laughed at them, made memes, but perhaps the joke’s now on us.

Today Mr Keenan and his pollies could say “Told you so”.

It’s not the first time that Melbourne hardcore outfit Deez Nuts has been caught in the worldwide spotlight. The band’s name got embroiled in American politics last year, as political candidate “Deez Nuts” rose to popularity in the US federal election.

Today however, the Aussie outfit have found their name next to that of ISIS, and it ain’t a great look. It’s such a shame, as the lads in Deez Nuts are as kind and genuine as they come.

Conflict News, which surfaces extremist fighting stories in Syria and Iraq, posted the following picture. It shows ISIS members captured by the Free Syrian Army, with one of the shabby individuals wearing a Deez Nuts jumper.

The saying that ‘Any publicity is good publicity’ may not be so relevant to this Australian band’s predicament.

I’m calling that their manager/publicist/label issues a statement which completely distances the band from the terrorist group, that much is obvious. Hair will be torn as those managing Deez Nuts hope the story blows over in the next few days.

Sure it may garner the band some worldwide attention, but I wouldn’t be surprised if News Corp and other media outlets pick up on this story and link it with the “Radicalisation Awareness Information Kit”.

I hope this isn’t the case, but there may be some name bashing coming Deez Nuts’ way.
