Forming in 2007, Resist The Thought‘s early career saw them working with international record labels, featured vocals from metal icons Eddie Hermida (Suicide Silence) and CJ McMahon (Thy Art Is Murder), and the release of a DVD counterpart to their 2012 album Sovereignty.

In 2013, the band announced they were parting ways and we thought that was the end of Resist The Thought—but we were wrong!

Four years after the split, original vocalist Rhys Giles returned with a fierce new line-up; Macleane Coward, Darcy Reynolds, Matt David and Zak Borg. After Darcy, Zak and Mac, all members of a prior band Absolution, approached Rhys looking for a vocalist, the group began playing old Resist The Thought songs and decided to “resurrect the reaper”; Resist The Thought was given new life.

The revamped Resist The Thought kept themselves in the forefront of fans’ minds, supporting Polaris’ Sydney show in late 2017 and posting a bunch of teaser videos about the band’s upcoming music. With teasers, comes questions! Were the metal melodies of 2012 coming back, who are the new Resist, and where will they go from here?

In 2018 Resist The Thought burst back into the scene, announcing their return to metal music with the release of a new song Set Me Free in January. It was clear that, although this was a reformed line-up, the new Resist The Thought has a chemistry and consistency to their sound that leaves you feeling as if they’ve been doing this together for years!

Not showing any signs of falling back into the shadows, Resist The Thought have brought us Awakened Salvation, a new song that has another exciting indication of what we can expect from the bands’ upcoming record.

When comparing this release to Resist’s earlier two records, Damnation (2010) and Sovereignty (2012), the difference in sound is unmistakable. Although both earlier records received praise for their thrash metal sound and complex guitar riffs, Awakened Salvation shows refinement and sophistication that proves Resist’s dynamic return to the alt scene is coming in strong!

Extracting the best parts of both thrash metal and classic rock, Awakened Salvation is a song that revs up the crowd with its quick-tempo’ed instrumental and articulate unclean vocals, then throws you into a rock ballad chorus that you can’t help but belt out.

The song is a celebration of Resist’s new line-up, direction, and sound, whilst still tipping the hat to those ever-present thrash and melodic sounds in their earlier work; showing that their versatility and growth has no limit.

These tracks, Set Me Free and Awakened Salvation, are the first time that Resist have used clean vocals in their music, a move which has elevated them into a new league of metal-hardcore-rock infused sound and attracted a new wave of eager fans.

With a stronger than ever attitude and a willingness to bring fans songs that have an identity all of their own, Resist The Thought are ready to bring their new sound and new direction to their fans.

“You can expect more speed, heaviness and catchy choruses,” guitarist Macleane Coward told Hysteria when asked what fans could expect from Resist The Thought in the future, with OG vocalist Rhys Giles adding, “I feel like Resist The Thought are the strongest we’ve ever been”.

In a time where music is so readily accessible and new bands are popping up left, right and centre, Resist The Thought have captured our attention with these latest songs and teases of their upcoming record. And with live shows scheduled between now and the end of the year, including the inaugural Halloween Hysteria 2018, there’s plenty to get excited about when you here the name: Resist The Thought.

Rather than sitting around waiting for the album, get yourselves to Halloween Hysteria 2018 on 27th October at The Jubilee Hotel, where Resist The Thought will be performing among an amplified assortment of Australian alternative music talent.
