THE (CHRISTMAS) HYST LIST // Hysteria’s Christmas Classics Playlist

Whether it be carols, hymns, choirs or songs, music has always played a large part in bringing out the festive season in even the grumpiest of grinches. (Except our Editor.)

But if you’re like us and you can’t stand listening to one more verse of Mariah Carey’s All I Want For Christmas Is You, for fear of a murderous rampage, then we have your Christmas tunes covered!

So to celebrate the first day of the Christmas month, here is Hysteria’s Christmas Playlist that will help you, and those in your vicinity, get through the holiday season in one piece!

10. Won’t Be Home For Christmas – Blink-182

A classic Christmas anthem that’s been a staple in every pop-punk fan’s Christmas playlist since 2010, Blink-182 are yet to show us there’s a song style they can’t smash out of the park. While this might not be the song to play at Christmas lunch, it’s definitely a go-to when you’re psyching yourself up for the Christmas Eve party.

9. Christmas Lights – Yellowcard

While this technically is a cover and not the band’s own song, it still deserves it’s spot on our list. If you’re looking for a song that won’t be turned off instantly by your family members, but doesn’t bore you to tears, this is definitely one of the best options.

8. Yule Shoot Your Eye Out – Fall Out Boy

Look, it’s not the best pun title FOB has ever come up with, but this upbeat Chrissy cracker would put the boogie back in even the Grinch’s heart. Besides I think we can all agree that Patrick Stump has a Saint’s voice (and Pete Wentz has the Angel’s face).

7. Every Snowflake Is Different (just like you) – My Chemical Romance

There was never not going to be an MCR song on this list. Sorry, but my love for them is too strong. It’s even strong enough to overlook the fact that this song premiered on Yo Gabba Gabba back in 2011. It’s a definite feel-good Christmas classic and one that every member of the family will love (sighhh … okay they’ll tolerate it).

6. My Christmas List – Simple Plan

Listening to this once makes you feel like the worst punk-rebel ever. Simple Plan basically call out the consumer-driven ways of Christmas, and as much as I’d love to throw my hand in the air and say I’m innocent of conforming to the ways of ‘The Man’, the older brother’s of pop-punk have got me down pat.

5. Right Where You Want Me To Be – A Day To Remember

Shockingly this song is about hating/loving hometown Christmases. I know right, ADTR dissing their hometown? Never! Regardless, the song is an absolute banger and even with it’s Christmassy lyrics, it’s perfectly acceptable to blast this bad boy any time of the year.

4. Ave Maria – Chris Cornell

There had to be one tear-jerker on the list, and this is about as jerking (tears only!) as it comes. Not only is it honouring the amazing talent of Chris Cornell, who sadly passed away earlier this year, but the song itself and Cornell’s stunning voice would choke up even the meanest of bikers.

3. Christmas On The Road – Sleeping With Sirens

The most recent song on our list, Sleeping With Sirens dropped this beauty only a few weeks ago. It’s the perfect “sitting with your partner by the fireplace cuddling” song. Definitely my new favourite lovey dovey Christmas tune!

2. Merry Christmas, Kiss My Ass – All Time Low

Don’t let All Time Low’s boyish charms fool you, this song is NOT PG-13! And if you’re not convinced of that from the song title, wait ’til you see the music video … But they do deliver the goods and this is a great Christmas banger the whole family can enjoy (well, maybe).

1. X-M@$ – Corey Taylor

This really is the ultimate rock ‘n’ roll Christmas ballad. Corey Taylor pushes his bad-boy persona to a new extreme by giving us an insight to his ‘Christmas Traditions’, most of which we can definitely relate to. “If I ain’t drunk then it ain’t Christmas” perfectly sums up my Christmas plans.
