BIGSOUND // Release Timetables, Party & Venue Details

deadlights

Another day, another BIGSOUND Festival announcement.

We’ve made no secret of the fact that we are foaming at the mouth over what the 2017 edition of the Brisbane music conference has to offer, and today’s announcement of the full program, party times and 90 (yes, you read that right) more speakers has pretty much guaranteed some sleepless nights in the lead-up to the event.

With events happening across four nights in 18 venues in the Fortitude Valley precinct, now is the time to open the Google Docs and start planning your sensory overload of tunes, lectures and parties.

The Bands

With over 140 bands on the list for this years event, there is literally something for every single musical flavour that you want to try. On the heavy music front, Sleepmakeswaves, Belle Haven and WAAX are just a few recent additions, joining the likes of Polaris, Endless Heights and Dear Seattle. Never has the Aussie heavy music community had such a strong showing at the festival, and one can only dare to dream how much this will continue to grow over the next few years.

The Venues

You needn’t bother booking a show in the Brisbane area between 5-8th September as every single venue in the city is pretty much set to cover the party. For those of us who like things up-close and personal, The Crowbar, Black Bear Lodge and 256 Wickham are the places to be. If partying under the stars is more your jam, The Brightside is hosting both indoor and outdoor stages, while The Foundry and The New Globe Theatre give punters the chance to experience some of Australia’s best live music on a premier stage.

The Speakers

By far the next best thing after the music itself, the speaker lineup for this year’s BIGSOUND is something to behold. The likes of 360, Brett Cottle (APRA), Dave Faulkner (Hoodoo Gurus, music journalist) & Bec Sandridge join an already bursting lineup of music and culture brains, riffing on all things from performance, promotion and the music business to political endeavours, environmentalism and social ethics. With such a rapidly changing industry and technology and social media influencing life more than ever, you could do a lot worse than going and listening to what these people have to say between sets.

The Parties

Kick-ons is never not an option at a festival like BIGSOUND, so the curators have given us a plethora of chances to dance the night away. On the opening night you can head to the Women In Music or Social State Welcome Party, and from there things only go up a gear. When you have events going by the names of Beacons and Bangers, Sounds of Chile and Mountain Goat Beer Closing Party, the FOMO is sure to be real for anyone heading to this year’s event.

BIGSOUND is quickly establishing itself as one of the most important music and networking conferences in the world. If you’re a music fan or even just looking for something to do over a week, BIGSOUND is an incredible opportunity to see what you’ll be jamming on Spotify in the flesh. Full details here.
