Brisbane boys Lavidius have been hard at work since their debut EP Prison Within was released in 2014. Now, after having gone through some lineup changes and reworking some of their tracks, they are just about ready to release their first LP Helisma. This album is their second featuring a collaboration with Adam Merker at Brisbane institution, Studio Anders Debeerz and the final product is a solid record showing a band with lots of promise.

The album kicks off with the first single Cold and Alone and in the opening minutes you find yourself banging your head. The melodic elements on this record, likened to bands like Arch Enemy and Soilwork, show exactly where their influences lie. When you combine these with the heavier riffs and cracking solos you can definitely hear the straight up heavy metal. Other times, metalcore; some Lamb Of God and Children of Bodom emerge in their writing.

Helisma is a solid debut release from Brisbane band Lavidius with plenty of melodic riffage and in your face, no nonsense heaviness.

Songs like Final Moments Rest, Helisma and the more recent single Days Get Darker, which features guest vocals from Björn “Speed” Strid of Soilwork, bring the groove to this record and ultimately make you want to listen over and over.

It’s certainly a release that shows off the talents of these musicians and while they do tend to play it safe, they do it well. Definitely check this one out and catch them live when you can.
