PREMIERE: SOSO // I Wouldn’t Call This Success … But It’s Close Enough

After a stack of promising singles, Sydney’s SoSo has shared their debut EP, I Wouldn’t Call This Success … But It’s Close Enough—and we, for one, welcome them as our new pop-punk overlords.

CLOWNS: Unleash New Single ‘Sarah’ // TIMES OF GRACE: Jesse Leach On How The New Record Captured Him Reconstructing From The Ground Up REVIEWS: DZ DEATHRAYS: Positive Rising: Part 2 // DESCENDENTS: 9th & Walnut // SLEEP WAKER: Alias // LIGHT THE TORCH: You Will Be The Death Of Me

Featuring their first four singles, including their most recent release The Great Escape and the previously unreleased Wasted Time, the EP was born for a singalong and crowd surf. “We called the EP I Wouldn’t Call This Success … But It’s Close Enough because we’re all in our mid 20’s and ya know what, when you’re younger, I think you really have a warped perception of where you’ll be by your mid 20’s. You think you’ll probably have things way more figured out, more money in the bank, less emotional baggage … you name it.” says the band. “It’s easy to think you haven’t found success as you’re getting older because you’re not meeting whatever your (or other people’s) standards of ‘success’. It’s easy for us as musicians to fall into that trap too. But realistically, we still have the opportunity to make great music, to get involved in some seriously sick creative projects thanks to our friends, and ultimately, that might not be deemed success … but it’s close enough, right?”

I Wouldn’t Call This  Success … was recorded at Sydney’s Electric Sun Studios. In their quest to deliver pop-punk perfection, the band also buddied up with producer Stevie Knight (Yours Truly), James Paul Wisner (Stand Atlantic) and Grant Berry. The band will hit the road this August-September with Wishful Thinking and Drastic Plastic to celebrate its release. It will mark their first interstate run and will see them tick off a bucket list venue in Sydney’s Manning Bar.

They add: “SoSo, Drastic Park & Wishful Thinking, don’t think we could have scored a stronger line-up. Big bonus—we get to headline The Manning Bar in Sydney, a venue where each band member has seen some of their favourite acts. I honestly can’t imagine we get out of this tour without a bill for damages, or at the very least, without some form of mild party induced PTSD. We all need a nice lemon detox to prepare, I reckon …”
