Every figure he puts together on this new album is an instant classic, a catchy head-nodder that could have come directly from some vintage rocker’s sound vault. 

Godless is simply exploding with riff-laden rock goodness that reads directly from the book of Tony Iommi with added chapters by Victor Griffin. I Am is straight-up Black Sabbath worship with a huge vocal delivery, as if Elin Larsson from Blues Pills had discovered a sustained lower register. Mindset rumbles on hypnotic riffing, Your Guess is As Good as Mine is a glorious paean to chunky doom, every beat accentuated with crashing cymbals. Shorter songs like Take the Edge Off, All My Friends Move Like the Night and Godless are just doom laced rock and roll gems ahead of the album winding down to slower and mournful closing tracks that add further depth to the sonic palette, creeping bass lines and slow builds into epic walls of riffs.

The warm, organic production, crashing cymbals and the immense rifferama are all wonderful on their own, but O’Brien’s tremendous vocal performance is the element that adds individuality and charisma to Devil Electric’s music, something that puts them a cut above other bands taking the same vintage rock journey. Heavy riffing rock is in very safe hands.
