BAD RELIGION // Release Orchestral Version Of ‘Faith Alone’

Bad Religion have released a new, updated version of their song Faith Alone, adding a string section, piano, and perfectly encapsulating this moment in time, as they always have in the past.

The original Faith Alone was a rocking protest song about humanism and taking action and not waiting for other people or a god to solve our problems, discussing how the issues we face like Global Warming, racism and social inequality don’t care about letting us handle them in our own time.

The new version gives the song a new coat of paint and almost acts as an epitaph or obituary, featuring mournful strings and lead singer Greg Graffin’s contemplative, aged and wizened vocals, which gives the song a completely different vibe.

I think the message of Faith Alone really resonates with everything that’s happening right now. Racial injustice, Trump, the COVID pandemic, the rejection of science, none of these things can be solved by burying our heads in the sand.

This reimagining was completed from a distance, with the initial vocal and piano tracks augmented by the band’s co-songwriter Brett Gurewitz, where he added guitars. The track was then passed onto Stevie Blacke (Beck, Lady Gaga, Garbage) who added strings and then to Bad Religion drummer Jaime Miller to add his own touches.

“I think the message of Faith Alone really resonates with everything that’s happening right now. Racial injustice, Trump, the COVID pandemic, the rejection of science, none of these things can be solved by burying our heads in the sand.” Says Gurewitz.

“We’ve always believed problems can be solved through reason and action, not faith and prayer. It’s what we’ve been writing about since the band started.”

On 18th August, Bad Religion will release their autobiography, DO WHAT YOU WANT: The Story of Bad Religion, which follows the bands story from their humble beginnings, to the tours that would make them worldwide names. Presented in a hybrid oral history/narrative format, the autobiography will also feature rare photos and never-before-seen material from their archives.
