WINDWAKER // PREMIERE—Acoustic ‘Fade Sessions’

Hysteria is proud to premiere the new acoustic 2-track from Melbourne’s Windwaker entitled Fade Sessions.

Although the band just released their debut EP Fade in August, the band have thrown fans a stripped-down curveball. Featuring a complete rework of Take Me With You and Awake, Fade Sessions is a more natural take on the tracks rather than their original, synth heavy vibes. The band are entirely responsible for the production of the record, as well as their own drummer Chris Lalic taking the reins on mixing and mastering.

Singer Will King says of the recording process for the 2-track: “Our initial thoughts on recreating the songs acoustically were that the tracks had to be kept intact structurally. We had all these crazy ideas but came to a conclusion that it would kill the songs and people would hate it. We started to demo stuff out, noticing the over-simplicity of both songs, and essentially binned the demos.

Having left the idea hanging for a few weeks, we began to re-explore the concept walking into it a lot more open minded this time. We spent weeks researching and exploring all sorts of alternative and popular styles from The Weeknd to Eddie Vedder to Angus & Julia Stone. After a bit of work, we came out with two really strong representations of the original songs, but done in a completely different way.

With deep themes of death and loss occurring throughout Fade, I felt the emotional content is channeled a lot clearer in this format, and I am very excited for our audience to engage with the songs and perhaps value the original songs further.”
