SPLENDOUR IN THE GRASS 2018 // Top 10 Acts Not To Miss


Heading into its annual 17th year, Splendour in the Grass 2018 is set for its biggest line-up yet with over 100 national and international acts set to perform during the three-day event in July. Here is a list of the top 10 acts not to be missed.

KENDRICK LAMAR:

Undoubtedly one of the most successful rappers of the new millennium, critically acclaimed rapper Kendrick Lamar, is all set to take the Splendour stage on Sunday July 22nd.

During his 14-year career, Lamar has achieved numerous milestones. Having reached well over 13 million Spotify streams, including sweeping up 12 Grammy Awards, with 6 million album sales under his belt, including his fourth album, DAMN, reaching #1 on the Billboard 200 charts, and his lead single, Humble, on the Triple J top 100 in 2017, this is one act not to be missed!

LORDE (Only Australian Show):

In 2013 New Zealand singer-songwriter, Lorde, burst through onto the music scene. The then 16-year old quickly made a name for herself with her debut album, Pure Heroine, which went multi-platinum all around the world, earning her two Grammy Awards. The initial success of her album paved the way for her follow-up hit singles, Royals, Tennis Court and Team.

In 2017, the New Zealand native released her second studio album, Melodrama featuring her smash hit single, Green Light. Reaching #1 in the US, Australia and New Zealand.

Her one-off Splendour appearance coincides with her upcoming Melodrama World Tour.

KHALID (Only Australian Show):

American R&B singer, Khalid, rose to fame in 2015 at the age of 18 with his debut single, Location, which lead him to score a record deal with Right Hand Music Group and RCA Records. The now 20-year old artist has a string of hit singles including, Hopeless, Let’s Go and Coaster. With his biggest hit yet, Young, Dum & Broke, Khalid is ready to set fire to the Splendour stage!

HILLTOP HOODS:

Aussie hip-hop band Hilltop Hoods, have had a colourful career since emerging into the Australian music industry back in the 90’s. With five #1 albums all hitting the ARIA charts over the years, the band have proven that hip-hop is still alive and kicking today.

With highly successful hit songs such as, Drinking From the Sun and Walking Under the Stars Restrung, Hilltop Hoods celebrated the achievement with the Restrung Tour in 2016, selling out arena’s all over Australia and playing to over 50000 fans.

Splendour will be Hilltop Hoods’ first live show in Australia, where they will drop their brand new single before heading off to tour the US. Don’t miss it!

ANGUS & JULIA STONE:

Home-grown indie brother-and-sister duo Angus & Julia Stone, have been making waves in the music industry since 2006 with their debut album, A Book Like This. Earning five ARIA awards over their 12-year career, including Single of the Year for their best-known track, Big Jet Plane, Angus and Julia have released three successful follow-up albums, marking their territory on Australian folk music.

Releasing the critically acclaimed album, SNOW in 2017, featuring the double platinum single, Chateau and reaching #3 on triple J’s Hottest 100, earned the sibling duo over 42 million Spotify streams globally and another spot on the ARIA charts.

Having played sold-out shows worldwide since the albums’ release, Angus & Julia Stone are gearing up for their upcoming Australian tour, playing for over 50000 plus fans. Their performance at Splendour is one not to be missed!

JAMES BAY:

British singer-songwriter James Bay, has been on a roll since dropping his debut album, Chaos & the Calm in 2015. Featuring his certified platinum single, Hold Back the River earned him three Grammy award nominations including a Brit Award for Best British Male Artist in 2016.

Gearing up for his second solo tour, Bay is also about to drop his second studio album, Electric Light set for release in mid-May.

Already making a name for himself at music festivals such as Coachella and Isle of Wight, Bay’s popularity is only growing more and more. His appearance at this year’s Splendour is one not to be missed!

AMY SHARK:

Undoubtedly one of Australia’s latest rising stars, Amy Shark has been making a name for herself since dropping her debut single Adore, in 2016 which peaked at #2 on triple J’s Hottest 100, earning her two ARIA Awards for Best Pop Release and Breakthrough Artist.

The Gold Coast Native had also made waves throughout the UK and US by appearing on The Late Late Show with James Cordon and The Tonight Show with Jimmy Fallon. After touring Europe and North America, Shark is now in the process of working on her debut album which is set for release later this year.

This will be her first Splendour performance, so don’t miss out!

BALL PARK MUSIC:

Since forming back in 2008, Brisbane-based indie-rock band Ball Park Music have released a string of successful EP’s and studio albums.

Gaining popularity through triple J’s Hottest 100 lead to highly successful performances at major music festivals throughout the world, as well as sold-out gigs in their home country. Now they are one of Australia’s most sought-after and respected groups.

Their latest album Good Mood, which dropped earlier this year coincided with their national tour, supported by the likes of Ali Barter and Hatchie.

Being one of this country’s most promising bands of the millennium, Ball Park Music’s performance is not to be missed.

GANG OF YOUTHS:

Home-grown alt-rock band Gang of Youths, are possibly one of Australia’s most in-demand acts. After dropping their debut track, Evangelists in 2013, the group have since released a string of singles including Let Me Down Easy, which earned a certified gold status on the ARIA charts.

Their second album Go Farther in Lightness, released in 2017 saw them earn eight ARIA awards nominations and four wins including Best Group and Album of the Year.

After making their US television debut on Late Night with Seth Meyers’, Gang of Youths embarked on a tour through the UK and US. This is their only Australian appearance, so be sure not to miss it.

HENRY ROLLINS (Only Australian Show):

Multi-talented US personality Henry Rollins is one act you should not miss.

Being described as a ‘workaholic’, Rollins’ has been in the entertainment industry since the early 1980’s where he works as an alternative punk musician, actor, writer, radio host and DJ. As the front-man of now disbanded groups Rollins Band and Black Flag, Rollins now travels through relatively third world countries as a spoken-word artist.

His one-off Splendour appearance will undoubtedly highlight many colourful moments throughout his lengthy career.
