Catchy Punk Roots

Whether you know them as Sløtface, Slutface, “that Norwegian band that has really hard names to pronounce”, or if you have no idea who I’m talking about, get ready to strap yourself in because the Scandinavian rockers have just released their debut album Try Not To Freak Out!

After releasing four EPs, including a song that has been labelled one of the best punk songs of 2016 (Sponge State), it’s no surprise that the announcement of an album has fans up in arms with excitement.

It’s always interesting to see what a band will create for their debut album. After all, most EPs are usually just a bunch of songs where the band is trying to find out what works best for them, lyrically, musically and artistically. Not too mention the added pressure that you only get to release a debut album once.

What Sløtface have produced as their entry album into the music scene, is nothing short of an excellent punk record.

The absolute banger of the album, for me anyway, is Pitted. It’s killer guitar shredding, whimsical lyrics and fast-paced tempo makes this song a must-listen. For all you rock chicks out there, this is the song you should be playing during pre’s before heading out with your girlfriends to a gig. Need proof? You’ll find it 54 seconds into the song.

“Dressed in all black, bitching on a kitchen counter in the corner with my girls. Playing Marry Fuck Kill with every actor that’s ever played James Bond.”

Another song that deserves an honourable mention, while being a stark contrast to Pitted, is Galaxies. This song is a bit softer than most of the other tracks but that doesn’t mean it’s any less of a solid song. It still has great instrumentals however it’s definitely a showcase more of lead singer Haley Shea’s engaging voice.

Overall the record is an incredibly fun and enjoyable album to listen to. Whether its on the train home from work, at the gym or just sitting in a circle with your friends drinking beer or smoking a joint, you’re going to want to have these songs on your playlist.
