Nailed it.

You Me At Six have never been shy of ambition. Right from their pop-punk beginnings in the mid 00s, playing stadiums was the goal, and having hit that goal in the UK by playing Wembley Arena and the O2, the question is—what next? The answer, of course, is bigger stadiums all over the world, and way to get there is by making stadium rock.

If you want your bangers to hit hard, you need your slower ballads and moody love songs to be just as intense, and You Me At Six has nailed it.

Night People is the result, expertly helmed by the production of Jacquire King, who is best known for his production of Kings Of Leon’s Only By The Night—another album that propelled a smaller rock band into stadium stardom. The Kings of Leon influence is strong in the swagger of the title track and Heavy Soul, and other influences bubble up unexpected: Pink Floyd in Make Your Move, Royal Blood in Can’t Hold Back. What’s most notable about Night People though is the sense of atmosphere and use of dynamics in the songwriting and production. If you want your bangers to hit hard, you need your slower ballads and moody love songs to be just as intense, and You Me At Six has nailed it—no doubt to King’s decision to make them track the whole thing live.

Overall, it’s a huge progression for the band and they should be proud. As for the international stadiums? Well, let’s just say the songs on Night People are perfect for rock radio and car ads. Hopefully decision makers will choose correctly and the people will follow.
