Let’s get this out of the way: Die-hard We Set Signals fans will have already heard these tracks before. The band released their second record Abandon Ship, Abandon Hope in 2017 but pulled it from streaming after striking a deal with We Are Triumphant.

Abandon Ship is the first EP to release, with Abandon Hope to follow sometime later this year. Despite a bizarre situation for fans, this EP is as solid as the day they released it. Yes we’ve heard this before from other acts but there’s a certain charm to We Set Signals. The Disconnect clears a path for vocalist Nick Wilkinson to show off with a tasty gang vocal closer following suit.

A Day To Remember fans will find a lot to love here as the band pack in more breakdowns than their pop-punk contemporaries.

A Day To Remember fans will find a lot to love here as the band pack in more breakdowns than their pop-punk contemporaries. Album opener Remember Me is a particularly strong track, luring the listener in with a feel-good riff before a bait and switch breakdown. By the time That’s Great, You’re Great speeds through to its end it’s over before we feel like we’ve really begun. Taken on its own, the EP finishes far too soon with two acoustic covers forced into the package. Admittedly Reunions Suck works better as a raw sing-along than its heavier counterpart. That’s Great doesn’t have the same magic unfortunately, and could easily have been dropped. Abandon Ship endears itself to both metalcore and pop-punk fans when it works; here’s hoping Abandon Hope completes the package.
