PREMIERE: SLOW TALK // New Single ‘New Vernacular’

We’re proud to stream New Vernacular, the newest single from alt rockers, Slow Talk. The release is the title track of the Melbourne based duo’s upcoming debut EP out on Friday April 27th.

New Vernacular is the second release from the record and it continues the trend of emotionally expressive lyrics first witnessed with Golden. The feels also carry through on a sonic level, with the duo continuing to pay homage to scene icons like Circa Survive and Citizen.

Speaking of the track, vocalist James Butler said that he wrote it to capture the excitement of leaving the country for the first time. The lyrics were written on my first trip to Japan—it’s the most experimental track on the EP and we wanted it to feel foreign, exotic, and different.”

This inspiration is massively reflected in the track. Lyrically, it is about realising a burning desire to experience new things, explore the world and escape the monotonous routine of daily life.

Butler also went on to highlight the desire the duo have to create music that pushes the boundaries. Speaking about the different approach the duo took on the single he said:

“We want to make our music a journey—songs that over their course, re-interpret and re-appropriate motifs to keep moving the song forward with a sense of direction. New Vernacular’s chorus is played twice, the first time at half-mast allowing the following verse to overtake it and signal a change for the song.”

The single New Vernacular will be available for streaming on Spotify from this Friday. In the meantime, previous cut Golden is available for both streaming and purchase via iTunes, Apple Music, Spotify, Bandcamp, Amazon and more.

The EP can now be pre-ordered via iTunes now.

Slow Talk is James Butler (vocals) and Ash Fuller (guitarist).
