MUNCIE GIRLS // Announce Second Album; Drop New Single

If you skipped the chance to catch Muncie Girls on their 2017 Australian tour with The Hard Aches, you missed out on some of the liveliest and most jaw-droppingly good live sets of the year.

Hopefully, though, a new run of shows Down Under is right around the corner. The timing would be sweet, seeing as though the UK pop-punks just announced their crash-hot second album, Fixed Ideals, which will be released on local shelves by the independent legends at Lost Boy Records.

Dropping on Friday, August 31st, Fixed Ideals was produced by Muncie Girls‘ good mate and longtime workhorse Lewis Johns, who you might know from his touch on records by Funeral For A Friend, Rolo Tomassi and Gnarwolves. The LP was mastered by Emily Lazar, whose credits include releases from Morrissey, Coldplay and Haim … So, like … This is no basement recording indeed.

The album announcement was met with the release of a new single, Picture Of Health, which a press release beautifully describes as “an impossibly catchy slice of punk-driven melodic perfection.” Vocalist and guitarist Lande Hekt notes that she wrote the track when she realised “how much easier it is to worry about your friends than it is to worry about yourself.”

Hekt also recorded the album playing both guitars and bass. “Having two guitars sounds really different and adds intricacy to the songs,” she says. “I was listening to different music when I wrote the songs and when we recorded it so that probably sounds quite different.

“I was listening to a lot of The Replacements, Siouxsie and The Banshees, The Popguns and The Pastels, so I wonder if any of that is audible! I think we all became a bit more adventurous when we were writing and recording this record.”

Lyrically, the record is said to deal with topics of “anxiety and mental health, the effects of too much alcohol wasting potential, having a desire to learn and be educated, as well as focusing on personal relationships and the importance of friendship and family. And what we feel when those relationships let us down.”

Muncie Girls will release Fixed Ideals on Friday, August 31st via Lost Boy Records.

Pre-orders are available now from their webstore, or you can snag a digital copy from BandcampiTunesGoogle Play or Spotify.
