Classic punk-rock aggression

Pow! Right in the kisser! Opening with a raucous riff, powerful and confident, Comeback Kid begin new album Outsider as they intend to continue—sublimely. Rumbling forth, vocalist Andrew Neufield wastes no time getting down to business in the title track, providing a sense of absolute totality in the sense that the Canadian punk rockers are saying, ‘This is us, this is our sound and we love it—take it or leave it.’ Of the two hypothetical statements, you’re going to want to take it!

For an album with such a reclusive title, its melodies harbour an odd sense of belonging as guitars consistently push and pull at your heart and mind as poetically relatable lyrics grace each song. In spite of manic force and unrelenting control, Comeback Kid have thrown in a little something from everywhere—they’re raging with Livid, I’m Prime, kicking back in Consumed The Vision, and offerings Recover and Throw That Stone are deadset going to be crowd favourites. Closer Moment In Time which features Northcote, seems to be just that, a moment in time that slows right down with a hallowed vocal melody before exploding back into real time.

The clear divisions between classic punk-rock aggression and the edgier hardcore elements of this album mean that in Comeback Kid’s ever growing arsenal of anathematic tunes, there will be something in this album to wow every kind of fan.
