DEVIL ELECTRIC // PREMIERE—Killer Second Single ‘Lady Velvet’

Devil Electric

Devil Electric, the doom-rock-cult band out of Melbourne has just dropped an animated lyric video for their second single Lady Velvet.

Since signing a deal with German label Kozmik Artifactz, the Melbourne 4-piece have been working hard behind the scenes for the better part of the last ten months, in anticipation of their self-titled debut album release which will be available on 11th August.

“We tracked the album live in a six day session last September at Melbourne’s Coloursound studios, and have been patiently waiting for vinyl test-pressings, production and the pre-order campaign to come and go! Six months prior to that session were spent writing the majority of the songs, one of which was pulled across from our debut EP The Gods Below,’’ says drummer Mark Van De Beek of the album process.

Devil Electric are heavy on riffs. It combines Pierina O’Brien’s dark, haunting vocals with droned out lead fuzz and a heavy, groove focused rhythm section.

“The second single, Lady Velvet, touches on opposing forces and building a character. The track is about the push and shove of relationships, both on a human level and a fictional/dramatised one. We experience a constant display of light & shade in the world, and the changing material surface of velvet reflects just that in a metaphorical sense.” explains bassist & co-lyricist Tom Hulse of the track.

The highly anticipated album is off to a flying start with pre-order copies & bundles of their vinyl selling out in black and marbled red. But don’t despair, as limited quantities of the solid red 180gm vinyl will be available on tour.

You can catch Devil Electric touring Australia in support of this release between August & October. Their main Melbourne launch show is happening on Saturday 16th September at The Evelyn Hotel with guests F*** The Fitzroy Doom Scene, Motherslug & A Basket Of Mammoths.

Check their socials and website for more information, and to order a copy upon the release of the album at devilelectric.bandcamp.com.
