Post-hardcore collective.

Catapulting Warped tour post hardcore into deeply melodic and painstakingly emotional territory in the mid 00s, there aren’t many band’s who can claim the enduring impact Circa Survive can. Transforming a generation of screamers into singers and power chord chugging faithfuls into lead-line masters, the crew are majorly responsible for continual output of theatrically inclined alt-rock.

The Amulet plays to the legendary band’s strengths without rendering them as merely a legacy act that rely on old tricks—the Circa crew certainly have a wealth of life left in them.

Album opener, Lustration is an understated post hardcore slow burner that balances deep heartache and desperation with lusciously layered guitar interplay that screams a joyful guise.

Circa Survive have managed to utilise their best assets and deliver an album that’ll see them maintain the position as an essential band in the post-hardcore collective.

Anthony Green’s vocal range has allowed Circa in the past to punch above the capabilities of their contemporaries, however seems watered down amidst the by-the-numbers instrumentation. Premonition of the Hex showcases a both a newfound musical and lyrical maturity whilst Tunnel Vision features the album’s dreamiest hooks and saccharine without compromising substance waterfall like guitar lines.

Stay’s subtle bass noodling cornerstones the tracks undeniable groove and understated aggression of the bendy lead riff—Circa Survive have clearly excelled in the field of ‘less is more’. Rites of Investiture fuzzy bass groove and anguished vocal delivery proves the album’s most openly vulnerable and aggressive cut, sticking out like a side fringe and Hot Topic t-shirt in 2017. Screams are used sparingly throughout the album, shedding the band mostly of any scene past.

Enduring as a Warped Tour band isn’t an easy feet. Circa Survive have managed to utilise their best assets and deliver an album that’ll see them maintain the position as an essential band in the post-hardcore collective.
