Well, haven’t we been living under a rock. Casey have already dropped this overseas but it’s taken more than a few months for Love Is Not Enough to hit our shores. Post-rock can be hard to pull off but second track Darling is simply gorgeous in its execution. Love Is Not Enough flits from the melodic hardcore of Little Bird to Darling at a moment’s notice. These different ends of the spectrum aren’t forced nor feel like a complete mish-mash. This record isn’t painful; it’s almost comforting how the pain of singer Tom Weaver envelops every syllable. The requisite Tumblr black and white GIF lines “our hearts lay on the bedroom floor/and one was mine/ but both were yours” hit hard enough to feel justified. Heartache lurks around each corner, and the refrained moments that follow the record’s angered hardcore (Sleep in particular) mirror the complicated maze of heartbreak.

It’s a shame that Love Is Not Enough has taken so long to make its way to our shores; we’re more than ready for an import to create an emotional melting pot.

Doubt wouldn’t feel out of place in an early Balance and Composure record, and emotional hardcore fans of locals like Stepson and Hindsight will find a lot to love. Haze‘s supposed olive branch “I hope to God that he makes you happy” morphs into “are you happy … are you fucking happy?!” We’ve all been there, even the relinquished “I’m sorry” that closes the song. Cavities takes a cue from Hundredth‘s more melodic side, where Bloom takes the strained lyricism path. It’s a shame that Love Is Not Enough has taken so long to make its way to our shores; we’re more than ready for an import to create an emotional melting pot.
